ANTaR Sea of Hands Reconciliation Schools Kit
This ANTaR resource was created to support teachers plan classroom activities which promote the theme of reconciliation using the Sea of Hands. The Sea of Hands is a great activity for students, particularly if it supports work being done in the classroom. Some schools have also incorporated students’ own hand designs and artworks within the installations, enabling students to make a more personal response to the event. ANTaR can supply hands and poles which can be used by your school to create a Sea of Hands installation. We can also supply hand pins for sale, which raise funds to support ANTaR’s mission of advocating for Justice, Rights and Respect for Australia’s First Peoples. See Attachment 1
Stolen Generations, Sorry Day and Bringing Them Home Resources
In 1997, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (now the Australian Human Rights Commission) released its report Bringing them home: National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families. Following this, the Commission received extensive requests from teachers for information about the report. The resources on this site have been developed in response to this request. There are a variety of worksheets that can be used in either the classroom or in the community. http://www.humanrights.gov.au/education/bringing_them_home/index.html
Oxfam and the Close the Gap in Health Outcomes Campaign
The Close the Gap campaign has been running for seven years, generating enormous support from the Australian community – including many students and teachers around the country. Below, you’ll find a link to the newly updated National Close the Gap Day student kit and an Activities and Ideas PowerPoint to support all participating Australian schools. Designed for all age levels, the kit encourages students to become actively involved in planning and running their own NCTGD event. We’ve also provided materials to help teachers incorporate Close the Gap themes into their classroom activities prior to and after the day. https://www.oxfam.org.au/act/resources-for-teachers/close-the-gap-studen...
