DESCRIPTION:We warmly welcome you to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday celebration at St Stephen’s Cathedral on Sunday 5th July.\n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is Walking together in Christ: A Celebration of Faith and Culture. Join us in celebration as a people shaped by story\, the Gospel\, culture\, and the journeys that have brought us to this moment. We gather in the presence of God\, who walks with us always\, and who calls us into unity as one people. \n\nThis year\, we commemorate forty years since St Pope John Paul II spoke to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Alice Springs\, and fifty years since the first NAIDOC Week.\nAfter the Mass\, we will be celebrating culture\, community and faith in the Hanly Room\, with activities\, cultural dances\, guest speakers\, elders’ table\, and a variety of stalls featuring crafts\, artefacts\, cake\, and activities.\n\nPlease note: parking will be available at St Stephens’s Cathedral carpark. \n\nThis event has been made possible by funding from the \nNational Indigenous Australians Agency.

SUMMARY:Truth Telling Mitchelton Library with Dr Thom Blake
DESCRIPTION:DR THOM BLAKE is a Queensland historian whose work has made a major contribution to truth-telling about Aboriginal history in Queensland. \nHe is best known for A Dumping Ground: A History of the Cherbourg Settlement\, the definitive history of the Cherbourg Aboriginal settlement first published in 2001 and republished in a second edition in 2023. \nThe book draws on archival records\, maps\, letters and the oral histories of former residents to reveal the impact of government control on Aboriginal families\, while honouring the resilience\, cultural strength andcommunity memory that endured at Cherbourg. \nA Dumping Ground won the *2002 NSW Premier’s History Award State Records Prize.* Dr Blake’s widerwork includes historical research\, heritage interpretation and community-based history projects across Queensland\, including work connected with Aunty Ruth Hegarty and the story of Aboriginal leader\, pastor and activist Don Kawanji Brady. \nAt this truth-telling session\, Dr Blake will speak from hisdecades of research into Cherbourg and Queensland’s history of reserves\, removals\, institutional control\, survival and resistance. \n \nRSVP\nContacts: Linda at 0403 265 344 or Rosalie at 0448 468 618\nEmail: support@truth-telling.online\nPDF FLYER
