SUMMARY:Truth-Telling with Aunty Dawn Daylight
DESCRIPTION:Respected Elder Dawn Daylight\, a Yugerra / Turrbal / Jarrawoir woman\, at the age of 12 was stolen and sent to All Hallows’ convent – one of the wealthiest elite private schools in Brisbane\, run by the Sisters of Mercy – where she was forced to work as a domestic servant. \n\n\n\n\n“I don’t recall being taken nor do I know how I got to that place. I have a faint memory of a big\, black car\, but the details of that day are lost to me now. \nAs a child\, you don’t really question those things; you just do as you’re told and what is expected of you. As a child\, I never felt like I had a right to ask about what was going on around me.” \n60 years later\, she says she ‘is still searching for answers.’ \nIn 2019\, she was the subject of an SBS documentary\, ‘Lost Daylight\,’ chronicling her search\, which continues. \nPlease RSVP via Google Forms: https://forms.gle/C4CGhTXUxJtitxR96 \nFor more details Open Flyer

SUMMARY:Truth-Telling in Wynnum - Aunty Denise Adams & Uncle Bill Lemson
DESCRIPTION:Your Invitation to Truth-Telling – Wynnum Allies \nAunty Denise Adams\, Elder in residence at Lourdes Hil College\, was a Board Member of Winnam Aboriginal Corporation for 14 years.\nShe is a member of a local Winnam Elders group\, and Co-Chair of Wynnum Allies. \nUncle Bill Lemon facilitates yarning circles at St John’s Cathedral.\nHe supports Brisbane Allies\, is involved in the Survival Day and Dundali Commemoration events in Magandjin / Brisbane. \nOur Rationale: There is widespread community interest in and support for truth-telling at local\, state and national levels among Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.\nTruth-telling is crucial to developing a shared understanding between al Australians- including in the greater Wynnum region- that can contribute to meaningful reconciliation. Truth-telling has the power to inform\, educate\, and heal – but also to provide an opportunity to achieve justice\, based upon hearing and understanding the wrongs of the past\, in support of the ongoing process of reconciliation in Queensland.\nFirst Nations Allies Wynnum meets monthly to promote this important understanding and dialogue. We welcome your interest and participation. \nContact us by email at:\nsupport@wynnumallies.com \nDownload Flyer
