DESCRIPTION:with Lesley Synge a Brisbane writer \nLesley Synge will speak on how she became involved in community-based Truth-Telling following the publication of her history book\, Know Their Names: the Queensland government’s \nAboriginal workers and the system that exploited them. \nMany know of Carnarvon Gorge in the Central Highlands\, but few know that the Queensland government bred horses on the property next door for 25 years\, from 1909 to 1934. \nOr that the horses were supplied to Police Stations for transport in a state twice the size of Texas. \n\n\n\n\nLesley Synge\, a Brisbane writer from Highgate Hill\, has made an in-depth study of the Rewan Police Horse Breeding Station and found that most of the stockmen who staffed the pastoral station were\nAboriginal inmates from Barambah-Cherbourg.

SUMMARY:Ration Shed Tour 7th June All Day Tour
DESCRIPTION:EX WOOBYE \nJump on board the bus for a FULL DAY\, catered day out to Cherbourg’s Ration Shed Museum and Historical Precinct.\nThe Ration Shed Tours are run by the original co-creator\, Sally Lawrence out to Cherbourg for a full day learning about how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were treated Under the Act of 1897. Hear personal lived stories from Elders and community members who were controlled by the Government at the Aboriginal Settlement of Barambah – Cherbourg.\nIn 2007\, Dr. Honor Cleary OAM asked Sally to organise a way to get more teachers out to Cherbourg to learn more about the history of forced removals and government policy that controlled every aspect of First Nations people’s lives. The tour invites you to learn from the Cherbourg Elders\, hear their stories\, and connect with a history of not so long ago. You’ll be touched by the humility of the community who want to share their story for us to learn through. Engage with the Elders\, exhibits\, displays\, and Augmented Reality experiences at the Ration Shed in Cherbourg and spend time discovering our shared histories.\nFully catered – please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking\, Admission\, Elders and Guide fees included\, Luxury Coach service\nDeparts from WOOMBYE SS CARPARK\nDeparts 7.30am return 6.00pm

SUMMARY:Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk 2025
DESCRIPTION:Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group warmly invites you to join us for a community celebration to connect with Kabi Kabi First Nation’s cultural heritage through traditional dance\, music and a guided walk with Traditional Custodians. \nAbout the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk \nHundreds turn out for the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk on a beautiful sunny day at Dicky Beach including many of our local schools and politicians. \nThe walk commences with a Welcome to Country\, Kabi Kabi dance and history of Aunty Betty before Traditional Custodians lead a short walk on-Country\, providing information and stories about the area. \nThe morning provides everyone the opportunity to connect with our local First Nations cultural heritage through dance\, music\, and the guided walk with Traditional Custodians. \nIn 2015\, SCRGI held its first Coastal Walk. Aunty Betty saw this as an opportunity to expand the reach of the group and worked over following years to continue obtaining sponsorship and planning of the walk – her legacy to the community. \nFrom 2019 the Walk has been known as the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk where we pay tribute to the life and work of our much loved Patron Aunty Betty McMahon. \nThe National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025\, Bridging Now to Next\, reflects the ongoing connection between past\, present and future. \nMembers of Aunty Betty’s family are always in attendance to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman and her enormous contribution to services for First Nations peoples on the Sunshine Coast. \nThis event is being held at Dicky Beach Park\, 10.00am Wednesday\, 28 May 2025. \nRSVP here to attend!
