DESCRIPTION:Save the Date of Sunday 7 June 2026 to attend an important ‘Truth-Telling’ session with our leading First Nations Guest\, Dr Noritta Morseu-Diop\, from 2.30 PM – 4.30 PM at CARINDALE LIBRARY. \nDr Noritta Morseu-Diop is a First Nations woman originally from Tamwoy Town\, Thursday Island\, in Far North Queensland. She became the first Torres Strait Islander to graduate with a PhD from the University of Queensland. As a highly experienced academic\, social worker and counselling practitioner\, Dr Noritta has been working in and alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and within non Indigenous communities throughout the state of Queensland for well over thirty years. \nHer areas of work include grief and loss counselling\, support and rehabilitation for incarcerated persons\, cross-cultural education\, and advocacy for Indigenous health\, human rights\, and social justice.Morseau-Diop has specialised in understanding the experiences of incarcerated Indigenous people and published her research in a book: Healing in Justice: Giving a Voice to the Silent and Forgotten People. In 2018 she received the Indigenous Community Impact Award. She has also received the Winston Churchill Fellowship. \nDownload the FLYER

We gather in the presence of God\, who walks with us always\, and who calls us into unity as one people. \n\nThis year\, we commemorate forty years since St Pope John Paul II spoke to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Alice Springs\, and fifty years since the first NAIDOC Week.\nAfter the Mass\, we will be celebrating culture\, community and faith in the Hanly Room\, with activities\, cultural dances\, guest speakers\, elders’ table\, and a variety of stalls featuring crafts\, artefacts\, cake\, and activities.\n\nPlease note: parking will be available at St Stephens’s Cathedral carpark. \n\nThis event has been made possible by funding from the \nNational Indigenous Australians Agency.

DESCRIPTION:DR THOM BLAKE is a Queensland historian whose work has made a major contribution to truth-telling about Aboriginal history in Queensland. \nHe is best known for A Dumping Ground: A History of the Cherbourg Settlement\, the definitive history of the Cherbourg Aboriginal settlement first published in 2001 and republished in a second edition in 2023. \nThe book draws on archival records\, maps\, letters and the oral histories of former residents to reveal the impact of government control on Aboriginal families\, while honouring the resilience\, cultural strength andcommunity memory that endured at Cherbourg. \nA Dumping Ground won the *2002 NSW Premier’s History Award State Records Prize.* Dr Blake’s widerwork includes historical research\, heritage interpretation and community-based history projects across Queensland\, including work connected with Aunty Ruth Hegarty and the story of Aboriginal leader\, pastor and activist Don Kawanji Brady. \nAt this truth-telling session\, Dr Blake will speak from hisdecades of research into Cherbourg and Queensland’s history of reserves\, removals\, institutional control\, survival and resistance. \n \nRSVP\nContacts: Linda at 0403 265 344 or Rosalie at 0448 468 618\nEmail: support@truth-telling.online\nPDF FLYER

As a child in the 1950s she lived in the Victoria Park settlement\, where she sat with Elders and learned her people’s ways. \nThe settlement was demolished in 1960\, but the place never left her\, and she has been a leading voice in protesting the development of the 2032 Olympic stadium at Barrambin\, Victoria Park. DESCRIPTION:Just letting you all know we’ve rescheduled our Traditional Indigenous Games\, and will now be hosting them at Hillbrook on Thursday 23rd July\, 2026. We are going with our original plan of having a marquee set up for the Teralba Park Stolen Generations Support Group\, in the hope that you will be able to drop in for the day\, half day\, an hour\, or whatever works for you. We’ll be playing the games of Keentan (Kalkadoon) and Buroinjin (Kabi Kabi) and will have 8 schools from across the district present. \nYou are more than welcome to bring family and/or friends with you to the event. During our discussions throughout the year\, we have been hopeful of having an Elder’s tent where the students can come and say hello\, hear a story or have a yarn. If you’re able to join us\, please let me know so we can provide some catering for you. The opening ceremony will be at 9.00am\, with Refiti Tovi delivering the Welcome to Country\, and some of our students performing our own Hillbrook song\, ‘Mother Earth’. It’s time that we ‘claim back’ our park! The Pump Track is still open and is well lit after sunset. \nThe fight to protect Victoria Park Barrambin is far from over. Legal action is ongoing and we are absolutely not giving up. \nWhile that fight continues\, we want to come together in the park each month to celebrate this extraordinary place\, connect with each other and remind ourselves exactly what we are fighting for. \nCome for a little while or stay the whole time. Currently\, Ainslie is an inclusion teacher at a school in Inala. She values this work as she is able to walk alongside children and young people and guide them on their learning journeys. In her spare time\, she enjoys many arts and crafts\, one of which includes weaving. \nKate Thompson is also a proud Gooreng Gooreng and Yuggera woman. She is a lecturer in Health and Social Work at the University of Queensland.
