SUMMARY:Ration Shed Tour 7th June All Day Tour
DESCRIPTION:EX WOOBYE \nJump on board the bus for a FULL DAY\, catered day out to Cherbourg’s Ration Shed Museum and Historical Precinct.\nThe Ration Shed Tours are run by the original co-creator\, Sally Lawrence out to Cherbourg for a full day learning about how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were treated Under the Act of 1897. Hear personal lived stories from Elders and community members who were controlled by the Government at the Aboriginal Settlement of Barambah – Cherbourg.\nIn 2007\, Dr. Honor Cleary OAM asked Sally to organise a way to get more teachers out to Cherbourg to learn more about the history of forced removals and government policy that controlled every aspect of First Nations people’s lives. The tour invites you to learn from the Cherbourg Elders\, hear their stories\, and connect with a history of not so long ago. You’ll be touched by the humility of the community who want to share their story for us to learn through. Engage with the Elders\, exhibits\, displays\, and Augmented Reality experiences at the Ration Shed in Cherbourg and spend time discovering our shared histories.\nFully catered – please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking\, Admission\, Elders and Guide fees included\, Luxury Coach service\nDeparts from WOOMBYE SS CARPARK\nDeparts 7.30am return 6.00pm

SUMMARY:Mabo Day June 3 each year
DESCRIPTION:Mabo Day is commemorated on June 3 each year in the Torres Strait Islands and across Australia. It marks the anniversary of the 1992 High Court decision that recognized Eddie Koiki Mabo’s fight for Indigenous land rights\, overturning the legal doctrine of terra nullius (the idea that Australia was land belonging to no one before European settlement). In the Torres Strait\, where Mabo was born on Mer Island\, the day is celebrated with cultural performances\, community gatherings and reflections on land rights and justice. It’s a powerful day of pride\, remembrance and cultural strength. \nhttps://tsirc.qld.gov.au/news-events/events/

SUMMARY:Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk 2025
DESCRIPTION:Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group warmly invites you to join us for a community celebration to connect with Kabi Kabi First Nation’s cultural heritage through traditional dance\, music and a guided walk with Traditional Custodians. \nAbout the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk \nHundreds turn out for the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk on a beautiful sunny day at Dicky Beach including many of our local schools and politicians. \nThe walk commences with a Welcome to Country\, Kabi Kabi dance and history of Aunty Betty before Traditional Custodians lead a short walk on-Country\, providing information and stories about the area. \nThe morning provides everyone the opportunity to connect with our local First Nations cultural heritage through dance\, music\, and the guided walk with Traditional Custodians. \nIn 2015\, SCRGI held its first Coastal Walk. Aunty Betty saw this as an opportunity to expand the reach of the group and worked over following years to continue obtaining sponsorship and planning of the walk – her legacy to the community. \nFrom 2019 the Walk has been known as the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk where we pay tribute to the life and work of our much loved Patron Aunty Betty McMahon. \nThe National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025\, Bridging Now to Next\, reflects the ongoing connection between past\, present and future. \nMembers of Aunty Betty’s family are always in attendance to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman and her enormous contribution to services for First Nations peoples on the Sunshine Coast. \nThis event is being held at Dicky Beach Park\, 10.00am Wednesday\, 28 May 2025. \nRSVP here to attend!

SUMMARY:Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum
DESCRIPTION:The 1967 Referendum was a landmark achievement following decades of activism by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people\, where more than 90 percent of Australians voted in favour of amending two sections of the Australian Constitution. \n56 years ago\, on May 27\, the 1967 Referendum was held to change two sections of the Australian constitution in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In an overwhelming ‘yes’ vote\, 90.77 per cent of Australian voters voted for the changes The referendum came about from the work of many Indigenous activists across the country and over many years. \n\nThere were protests and campaigns calling out the injustices facing Indigenous people.\nNITV looks back at those events and some of the people and organisations that lobbied for First Nations’ rights in the lead up to the 1967 Referendum.\nImage courtesy NITV \n

SUMMARY:Link-Up Sorry Day Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Link-Up (Qld)’s annual Sorry Day Breakfast will take place from 8am–10am on Friday 23 May 2025 at Cranbrook Place in Orleigh Park\, West End (Brisbane). Join us for this free community event\, as we honour the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and descendants\, and show our support for their ongoing healing. \nThis year’s event will feature guest speakers Aunty Angelique Wittwer\, a proud Stolen Generations survivor\, and her son Samuel Songoa. Taken from her family as a child and placed on Melville Island\, Aunty Angelique was later adopted by a non-Indigenous family and relocated to South Australia. Decades later\, she began the long journey of reconnecting with her Warlpiri heritage through Link-Up (Qld). Samuel has walked beside his mother on this journey\, gaining a deeper connection to culture and identity. \nThe morning will also include a cultural performance by the Wakka Wakka Dancers and songs by Royston Noell — proud Thanakwith and Wagadagam man\, and 2023 winner of Australian Idol — whose soulful voice promises to make this an unforgettable event. \nAll welcome. Limited seating. See Flyer for Registration.\nor call Link-Up (Qld) on 1800 200 855.

SUMMARY:Reconciliation Queensland's 25th Anniversary - Gala Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we commemorate 25 years since the incorporation of Reconciliation Queensland—a milestone grounded in a movement that began long before us. For countless generations\, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have fought tirelessly for recognition\, respect\, and equity as the First Peoples of this land. Their resilience and strength continue to inspire us on the journey toward healing\, understanding\, and a future built on mutual respect. \nThe past 25 years have seen moments of progress and challenges. While recent times have been marked by difficulties\, they underscore the enduring importance of reconciliation—just as vital today as it was when we began. This milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared history\, recognise how far we’ve come\, and renew our commitment to the path ahead. \nThis journey has not been travelled alone. Each year\, we find ourselves joined by new and more dedicated partners on the path toward reconciling our nation. The dictionary defines reconciliation as “the action of making one view or belief compatible with another.” In this spirit\, we strive to bring together diverse perspectives and work toward a shared understanding. \nAs we look ahead\, we aren’t seeking allies—those who support from the sidelines—but partners: individuals and organisations committed to shared action. Reconciliation is a responsibility we all share\, and only by working together can we create a future built on equity\, respect\, and justice. \nWe invite you to celebrate with us—a time to honour our wins\, acknowledge our losses\, and stand together as we envision the next 25 years. Let’s deepen our relationships\, amplify the voices of First Nations Peoples\, and showcase the rich diversity of the oldest living cultures in the world. \nAs we look toward the upcoming Olympic Games\, let Australians be the leaders in a space where we respect and celebrate our full history\, learn from it\, and ensure a bright future for the generations to come—one they can be proud of. \nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of reflection\, celebration\, and commitment to a reconciled future. \nThe Star Brisbane -The Ascot Room \nTickets: \nhttps://events.humanitix.com/reconciliation-queensland-s-25th-anniversary?hxchl=mkt-loc&hxref=australia%2Fbrisbane
