SUMMARY:Truth Telling Session with Ray Kerkhove at Mitchelton Library
DESCRIPTION:Ray Kerkhove is a professional historian\,\ncultural researcher and writer who specialises\nin the Aboriginal history and material culture of\nsouthern Queensland. Ray authored the first\nguidebook to the numerous Aboriginal camps\nthat flourished in and around Brisbane from\nconvict times to as late as the 1950s. Many of\nBrisbane’s suburbs trace their names\, parks\nand key events to these former campsites.\nRay has decades of experience working with\nIndigenous community groups on many\nsignificant historical and cultural projects.\nAn Associate Professor (Adjunct) with the University of\nSouthern Queensland\, Kerkhove twice served as\nHistorian-in-Residence\, and twice as Visiting Fellow with\nGriGith University. He has worked for over 40 years with\nFirst Nations groups\, reconstructing their site histories\,\npast lifestyles\, and conflict sites.\nKerkhove’s research is extensively used within Museums\,\nMaster Plans for towns and major developments\, public\nartworks\, exhibitions\, Council signage\, and cultural\nrevitalisation projects such as his mapping that was\ncentral to QUT Campus to Country – Positioning Strategy\n(2020)\, which won the 2021 National Commendation for\nUrban Design. \nRSVP:  hellochargreenwood@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Restoration Day is always a wonderful\, positive event where the First Nations panel publicly announces this year’s distribution from the Restoration Fund.\n\nIt’s a great opportunity to hear about the great work First Nations people are doing.\n\nAll welcome to come along.\nRSVP’s would be appreciated\, to ptrbalaangala2019@gmail.com\n\nThe Restoration Fund (previously Pay The Rent fund) has been developed by members of Balaangala Community Group Inc. in partnership and consultation with First Nations Elders and community members. The Fund is for non-First Nations people who want to act on their concerns and beliefs about living on land they know was stolen from First Nations people. \nThe Restoration Fund was officially launched on January 26th 2019 by Aunty Flo Watson. The Fund aims to help restore some of the financial and cultural capital that has been taken from First Nations people through the process of colonisation. \nOne-off or ongoing contributions can be made be emailing ptrbalaangala2019@gmail.com and requesting the bank deposit details.
