Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk 2025

Wednesday, May 28 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm AEST

Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group warmly invites you to join us for a community celebration to connect with Kabi Kabi First Nation’s cultural heritage through traditional dance, music and a guided walk with Traditional Custodians.

About the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk

Hundreds turn out for the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk on a beautiful sunny day at Dicky Beach including many of our local schools and politicians.

The walk commences with a Welcome to Country, Kabi Kabi dance and history of Aunty Betty before Traditional Custodians lead a short walk on-Country, providing information and stories about the area.

The morning provides everyone the opportunity to connect with our local First Nations cultural heritage through dance, music, and the guided walk with Traditional Custodians.

In 2015, SCRGI held its first Coastal Walk. Aunty Betty saw this as an opportunity to expand the reach of the group and worked over following years to continue obtaining sponsorship and planning of the walk – her legacy to the community.

From 2019 the Walk has been known as the Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk where we pay tribute to the life and work of our much loved Patron Aunty Betty McMahon.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Members of Aunty Betty’s family are always in attendance to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman and her enormous contribution to services for First Nations peoples on the Sunshine Coast.

This event is being held at Dicky Beach Park, 10.00am Wednesday, 28 May 2025.
