Truth-Telling at Mitchelton Library with Mark Baumgart

Sunday, September 7, 2025 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST

Born in Darwin, Mark Baumgart is connected to the Woolwonga Nation, acknowledging his people’scultural heritage & traditional homelands: North- east of Pine Creek, Adelaide and Alligator River Regions, leading into the lower wetlands of the current Kakadu National Park, across the Stuart Highway into areas of the Leitchfield National Park, Northern Territory.

Mark served for over 25 years in Reconciliation and was a long-term member of the Reconciliation Queensland Committee. He has also held Executive roles on the Governing Committee of Link-Up Queensland (8 years) and Treasurer on the Governing Board of Gallang Place Indigenous Counselling Services (4 years).

For several years he was Indigenous Co-Chair of the Queensland Sorry Day Journey of Healing Committee (QSDJoHC) and Co-Chair on the National Sorry Day Committee leading up to and beyond the National Apology in 2008.

Mark’s drive and passion are to reconnect families, because for much of his childhood, he grew up as a Ward of the State in various orphanages and care institutions. Mark’s drive also comes from the memories of his Aunties and Uncles from Darwin, who were members of the Stolen Generations.
